First time for everything.

We have quite a healthy lifestyle, the kids have never had fast food and until today chips have not been served at our table. But after watching a few cookery programmes that showed you how to make your own healthy chips from fresh potatoes in the oven instead of deep fat frying I thought it was time for a change.

I cut potato wedges rather than thin French fries because we want the goodness of the potato not some burnt stick that may or may not contain potato. And spiced them with a few mixed herbs (fresh from the window box) and a tiny pinch of salt. Then sprayed them with a light covering of fry light, the only oil I ever use. They were cooked in the oven at 180 Celsius for 40 minutes and served with fresh grilled plaice and peas.

The kids thought they had been given a real treat all the plates were clean.

This is something I will have to do again, not to often though if the kids get used to it they may think it's fine to stuff themselves on deep fried chips.
